Fiji driving guide
Short, practical advice from the people who hand over the keys.
Driving on the left
Traffic keeps left, with the driver on the right. If you’re new to it, take the first few kilometres slowly and leave the airport roads before you speed up.
Sealed and unsealed roads
The main highways around Viti Levu are paved. Our hatchbacks and wagons are for paved roads only. For villages, the highlands and gravel, choose an SUV with higher clearance.
Plan your day around daylight
Roads outside towns can have pedestrians, animals and few lights. Try to finish longer drives before dark.
Licence and documents
Bring a valid licence held for at least one year, plus your passport or ID. If your licence isn’t in English, you also need an International Driving Permit.
